Established in 1837, World Affairs is a bimonthly international affairs journal that argues the big ideas behind U.S. foreign policy. Always striving to encourage open and informed debate, the journal is committed to offering readers a healthy range of perspective and opinion to help clarify the challenges and choices that America faces in an increasingly complex, unpredictable, and dangerous world. Our pages—occasionally unruly, seldom dull, and always edifying—feature conservatives like Robert Kagan and P. J. O’Rourke alongside liberals like George Packer and David Rieff, and with others who transcend categories, like Christopher Hitchens and Andrew Bacevich. This variety makes for some of the best conversation you’ll find in print – it is literate, literary, and, most of all, heterodox – The New Yorker of foreign policy magazines.

Building on this tradition, the journal’s web companion, WorldAffairsDaily.org, was launched in January 2010. Updated throughout the day, the site highlights news, opinion, and research from media, governments, and think tanks around the world. The site’s unique news offerings allow the reader, on any given day and with any given headline story, to see what news is being reported around the world as well as how it’s being reported.

WorldAffairsDaily.org also features blogs that showcase influential and provocative voices from the USA, as well as Europe, the Middle East, and Russia-- some dissident voices within their own political culture. Internationally respected writers like Michael Zantovsky (of the Czech Republic) and Alaa Al Aswany (of Egypt) are featured alongside American commentators like Roya Hakakian, Joshua Muravchik, and Ann Marlowe.  Our bloggers and authors are referenced often in The Washington Post, The New Republic, The New York Times, Forbes, ABC News, Commentary, Politico, and Los Angeles Times, as well as picked up by Arts&Letters Daily, RealClearWorld and The Browser.

What People Are Saying

“World Affairs is lively, interesting, eclectic. Finally a publication that hones in on the essential; that values considered opinion over instant opinion; that seeks balance without losing its compass.”
Jeffrey Gedmin,
President of RFE/RL

“While even highbrow publications are churning out bite-sized blog items, World Affairs is indeed providing a venue for meatier ideas.”
Michael Calderone, Politico

“…World Affairs is shaping up to be one of the most important magazines in the world of foreign policy.”
The New York Sun
