David Petraeus has resigned from his job as the director of the CIA, supposedly because he had an affair. Seems a strange reason to resign, though perhaps he really needs to spend some time at home repairing his marriage. With the possible storm coming to Washington over Benghazi I can certainly understand why various theories are being floated about other reasons he may have resigned. But it’s probably best if everyone holds off on that at the moment. Hardly anyone knows if there’s more to the story than this, and if there is, most likely all of us will find out eventually.
For now, I’m going to sit back and wait.
UPDATE: I don't want to sound like I'm saying "nothing to see here, folks, move along." The problem is that hardly anyone has a clue what's going on behind the scenes, and if I speculate I'm bound to be wrong. So is everyone else. And it is possible that there's nothing to see. I just don't know.
But former CIA operative Robert Baer had this to say on CNN: “There are 4 or 5 CIA directors that I know who were carrying on extramarital affairs while they were director. The FBI was never brought in. So this is absolutely extraordinary. I’m telling you there’s more to do than with sex. There’s something going on here which I can’t explain and I think we’re going to find out very soon.”
